American Councils is a not-for-profit organization working to advance education, research, and mutual understanding across the United States and 26 nations in Eastern Europe and Eurasia . With a staff of over 450 professionals, American Councils designs and implements innovative programs in the U.S. and Eurasia for immersion learning, field research, and professional development. American Councils is a recognized leader in educational reform and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
Education and Research Programs
Over the past 30 years, American Councils has built an extensive network of partner institutions across the U.S. and Eurasia to support students, scholars, and professionals. Our education and research programs place and support more than 5,000 exchanges at thousands of educational institutions and businesses annually. Major funding is provided by the U.S. Departments of State and Education, the Open World Leadership Center , the National Endowment for the Humanities, and private foundations.

American Councils is a valued resource to U.S. and foreign governments, multilateral development banks and foundations for system and institutional reform, participant training, and program administration.
Teaching Materials and Professional Development
A respected leader in education, American Councils has worked closely with scholars and educators to develop new standards and K-16 curriculum in the humanities, social sciences, business, foreign languages, and law.
Alumni Associations
American Councils supports several dynamic networks for over 30,000 program alumni and partners in virtually every region of Eurasia and throughout the U.S. .
