Computer-Based Test Administration
The official Prometric computer-testing center is located at the office of American Councils for International Education at 2 Arakishvili Street in Tbilisi . The following computer-based tests are offered at the Tbilisi center:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)—required of all foreign students planning to study at a US or other foreign university. Scores are valid for two years after the date of testing. To register online or to download an information bulletin, please visit the TOEFL website at www.ets.org/toefl.
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam)—required for entrance to most US universities. Scores are valid for five years after the date of testing. To register online or to download an information bulletin, please visit the GRE website at http://www.gre.org/
- GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)—required of most US management and business schools. Scores are valid for five years after the date of testing. To register online or to download an information bulletin, please visit the GMAT website at http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT
- USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination)—required for anyone wishing to practice medicine the US . This test has three steps, two of which are computer-based tests. The third step is a mandatory medical residency in the US . There is currently no online registration for the USMLE exam; examinees must register by credit card or bank check. Registration:
Anyone wishing to register for the above exams may also register through the regional testing center in the Netherlands . The phone number of the regional testing center is +31-320-239-540. All registration information is included in a test bulletin, which is available at the American Councils office. Examinees may register either by credit card or bank check.
Center hours:
The testing center is open every Tuesday and Thursday, and the second Saturday of each month. Testing sessions are at either 9:00 am or 1:00 pm. Bulletins and registration consultations are available during regular American Councils office hours ( 10:00-18:00 ).
Notification and Scores:
The registration office in the Netherlands will confirm registration by email immediately after the exam has been scheduled. It is also advisable for the examinee to contact Zura Revazishvili at the Tbilisi test center to confirm the test date and time. Zura can be reached by phone or by email at test@amcouncils.ge Scores are processed by ETS in Princeton , New Jersey and sent out to the examinees and their designated institutions two weeks following the test date. (It usually takes an additional 3-4 weeks for the scores to arrive in Georgia .)
Paper and Pencil Based Test Administration
American Councils for International Education administers a number of paper-based examinations for individuals and institutions.
1. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)— required of all high school graduates in the US
- SAT I : general exam (analytical, verbal)
- SAT II : (specialized subjects—i.e., Physics, Biology, foreign languages, etc)
The SAT exams are offered at the Tbilisi test center twice a year: the first Saturday of November and the third Saturday in January. 2. Institutional TOEFL Program (ITP)
The Institutional TOEFL is very similar to a paper-based TOEFL exam. Any school or organization wishing to test the knowledge of their students or staff may order this exam one month in advance through American Councils. The scores of this exam are available 2 weeks from the test date and are for use by that institution only. They are not transferable or valid for any period of time following testing.
3. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a half-day standardized test required for admission to all law schools that are members of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). It provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants. Many law schools require that the LSAT be taken by December for admission the following fall. However, taking the test earlier—in June or October—is often advised. 4. Secondary Level of English Proficiency (SLEP)
The SLEP test is similar to a high school level TOEFL, with listening comprehension, structure, and reading sections. This test is available through American Councils with one-month advance notice. This test is scored locally and scores are available within one week of testing.
5. GRE Subject Exam
A number of specialized subject tests are available as part of the GRE exam. These tests are paper-based and are given usually three times a year.
